החתול מצונן ומנוזל? ייתכן שהוא סובל מדלקת עיניים
דלקת לחמית העין הינה מחלת העיניים הנפוצה ביותר בחתולים, גורם הדלקת הוא לרוב גורם זיהומי.
גורם הזיהום הנפוץ ביותר בדלקות עיניים בחתולים הוא בראש ובראשונה וירוס הרפס , אך גם וירוס הקלצי, חיידקי הקלמידופילה וחיידקי המיקופלסמה.
מדלקות אלו הסובלים העיקריים הם חתולים צעירים מאוד או המבוגרים אלו שמערכת החיסון שלהם חלשה.אצל הגורים המחלה אקוטית ומשלבת את דרכי הנשימה העליונות, הפרשות מהאף, אנורקסיה, עיטושים, עייפות, חום, לעיתים אף כיבים של הלחמית.
כיצד נדבקים?
ההדבקה נעשית בדומה לשפעת במגע עם הפרשות האף והעיניים, ניתן להדבק מכלי השתייה והאוכל של החתול. החיידקים מועברים באמצעות מגע ישיר עם חתול נגוע, נגיפי המחלה נמצאים ברוק, בדמעות ובנזלת, ישנה אפשרות להעברת המחלה ע"י בני אדם באמצעות ליטוף חתול נגוע.
טיפול ומניעה:
הטיפול היחיד הוא בתסמיני המחלה ובשמירה על תנאי סביבה תומכים ונוחים.
רוב החתולים הנגועים בנגיף ההרפס יחלימו באופן ספונטני אך החתול ימשיך להיות נשא של הוירוס ועלול להדביק חתולים אחרים.
חתולים בוגרים יתכן וימשיכו לסבול מדלקות עיניים חוזרות או כרוניות.
במקרים של דלקות עיניים קשות יש להשכיב את החתול בחדר חמים ושקט, להניח קערת מים טריים, אוכל וארגז חול קרוב אליו.
יש לנקות את הפרשות מהאף והעיניים כדי להקל על הגודש.
לעיתים ימליץ הווטרינר לתת אנטיביוטיקה משחת עיניים לטיפול בזיהומים שגרמו החיידקים וגם תרופות להקלת גודש והקלה על הפרשות.
כמו כן, במצבים של אשפוז, יש לתת נוזלים, ויטמינים, זריקות וכדורים לעודד את התיאבון.
ניתן להוסיף למזון חומצת אמינו ליצין שתפקידה להקטין את התרבות וירוס ההרפס.
