חתול שלקה במחלה ההרפס יפתח סימנים בעיקר  בעיניים, שיתראו כיבים דלקתיים ומוגלתיים, בגורים התמונה הקלינית תיהיה צליעה ובחום גבוה או כיבים בלשון ובאף. ניתן יהיה לראות שילוב של המחלה גם בנוכחות חיידק הכלמידיה שגורם אף הוא להפרשות מהעיניים ובאדמומיות, זיהום זה יכול להתפשט גם לדרכי הנשימה התחתונות ולגרום לדלקת ריאות קשה ואף למוות. סכנת המחלה בהדבקה בין חתולים כתוצאה מהעברה של הנגיף בין חתול חולה לחתול אחר באמצעות, מגע, נזלת, רוק ודמעות, אפילו דרך הבגדים, בקערות המזון והשתיה.


הטיפול

בעיקר סיפטומטי, טיפול בתסמיני המחלה ובשמירה על תנאי סביבה חמים ונקיים.

רצוי להאכיל את החתול החולה מכף ידנו, ולשאיר אותו באזור  חמים ונקי.

להקפיד לנקות את ההפרשות מהאף והעיניים כדי להקל על הגודש באף.

להחליף את האוכל והמים בתדירות גבוהה.


טיפול תרופתי

אנטיביוטיקה לטיפול בזיהום ותרופות להקלה בנשימה , מתן נוזלים וויטמינים וזריקה לעידוד התיאבון.


תהליך זה יקח כמה שבועות ורוב החתולים יחלימו בהדרגה, אך קיים סיכוי להמשך מדלקות כרוניות בשנים הבאות ללא תמיכה נכונה וטיפול מונע בעתיד.

I have read your entry about cat flu, and it helped me realize how dangerous it can be to cats, particularly when it comes to sneezing, discharge in or around the eyes, and lack of appetite in younger or older pets.
